The Mystery at Marlatt Manor by Anne Loader McGee

Book: The Mystery at Marlatt Manor

Author: Anne Loader McGee

Release date (if applicable): Published

Synopsis: Mallory Gilmartin is forced to move to Cedar Creek, VA. When she is biking one night and notices a light on in a deserted and allegedly haunted mansion. Then she starts to have nightmares. She decides to investigate. The more she investigates, she wonders if it is connected to the disappearance of a young girl, Violet Marlatt, from the estate 50 years earlier. Someone doesn't want Mallory to solve this mystery though!

My rating: 4 Stars

My opinion: What a wonderful, clean read this was targeted toward late grade schoolers and middle school readers. A goodreads reader called it a modern day Nancy Drew and I would agree. Simply refreshing compared to the Werewolf love stories currently targeted towards this audience. I loved that, although the book is creepy, it doesn't go overboard, especially with who this book is targeted towards.  To boot, the writing was excellent using simple enough words that a preteen wouldn't be too challenged.

Would I recommend? : An excellent gift for the target audience above.

Stand Alone or Part of a Series: It is a stand alone, but I easily could see this become a series.
