The Midwife's Revolt by Jodi Daynard

Book: The Midwife's Revolt

Author: Jodi Daynard

Release date (if applicable): Published

Synopsis: Widow Lizzie Boylston has shrugged off her grief to support the Colony's cause as a spy. How will this midwife's friendship with Abigail Adams support her in her efforts? Can a woman really help the Cause?

My rating:3 Stars

My opinion: I selected this book from Netgalley because of the subject matter. I have always been fascinated by women who fought in the Revolutionary War, so this book would have fit right into my reading love. I think, given the subject of this book, I expected much more "action" than what the book offered. However, I found myself frequently bored with the storyline and the writing. In all honesty, the characters left me kind of cold too.

Would I recommend? : It is iffy for me. For some, they will enjoy it. I just happened not to.

Stand Alone or Part of a Series: Stand Alone

  1. I don't normally reply to reviews, but I am wondering how Martha Washington figures here? Did you think my servant Martha Miller was Martha Washington? Martha Washington is not a character in my novel: she and Abigail never had a relationship to speak of. So perhaps this is a misunderstanding. Thanks for reviewing my novel, though.

    1. Jodi...thank you so much for responding to my review. That does help. It also makes a number of incidents in the story a bit more "real". I am not sure when in my reading Martha Washington came into my mind and thought it was an odd addition to the storyline. I will amend my review to take out any references to Martha Washington.

    2. Awesome. Yes, looked at your first way, the relationship doesn't make much sense! Happy reading, and all the best. - J
