Synopsis: Magdalena and her sister Jadranka could be no different growing up on the beautiful island of Croatia. The second Jadranka becomes and adult, she is out of there and off to the United States. When the free-spirited Jadranka disappears in New York City, the stable Magdalena knows her sister wouldn't do this intentionally and heads to the big apple to find her. What she didn't know is the family secrets she would uncover in her search for her sister.
My rating: 3 Stars
My opinion: Loved this debut novel, particularly the sections written set in Croatia. There were almost poetic attributes to those sections. I thought that this was lost in the parts of the story written that were set in the US. Still a great debut novel. I simply would have liked to have seen some consistency in strong writing.
